Retry a store upload

Upload a finished build to Google Play or App Store Connect again without rebuilding it.

When a build compiles, signs and stores its artifacts but the store upload fails, retry only the upload. Oore queues a new build that downloads the original build’s stored App Bundle or IPA and runs the upload again. Nothing is compiled or signed again.

What you need

  • Project developer, maintainer, instance admin, or instance owner access.
  • A finished build whose artifacts step succeeded, so its App Bundle or IPA is stored and has not expired.
  • Publishing for that store turned on for the pipeline.

1. Open the build

Open the build whose upload failed. When an upload can be retried, the build page shows Retry Google Play upload or Retry App Store upload next to Re-run.

2. Retry the upload

Select the retry action. Oore opens the new build, which runs:

  1. artifacts: downloads the original build’s App Bundle (and mapping.txt when it was stored) or IPA, checks each against its stored checksum, and stores them again as this build’s artifacts.
  2. The upload you retried, then any later upload of the original build that did not succeed. Retrying publish-play after it stopped the build also runs publish-app-store when that store is turned on.

The upload reads the pipeline’s current publish settings and secrets, so fix a store permission or a setting first, then retry.

Verify the result

The new build shows succeeded and links back to the original build. Its Release tab shows the store release it created.

Limits

  • Only store uploads can run on their own. Every other step depends on the build’s workspace, which is deleted when the build ends, so use Re-run to build again.
  • An upload that already succeeded is not offered again; stores reject a version code or build number they already have.
  • Google Play release notes read from repository files are read from the build’s commit, so the retry checks out the source first.
  • When the original build stored several App Bundles, Oore needs exactly one whose name contains release to know which one to upload.

The HTTP contract is available in Retry a build step.

Troubleshooting

The retry action is missing

The upload already succeeded, the artifact expired, or publishing for that store is off. Run a new build with Re-run.

The retry fails with the same error

The retry uses the pipeline’s current publish settings and secrets. Fix the setting or permission named in the error first, then retry again.

Next step

Promote builds between environments once the upload succeeds.
